Clinical Enfolded Fellowship
Jan 2017- June 2017
Minimally invasive Endoscopic brain and Skull base fellowship
Department of Neurosurgery, Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, NY,NY
Under Dr Theodore Schwartz’s tutelage, the clinical fellowship focuses on minimally invasive techniques for endoscopic endonasal surgery of the pituitary fossa and cranial base. It emphasizes the operative, peri-operative management as well as follow-up care of patients. It also includes research activities.
Jan 2017- June 2017
Microsurgical Skull base fellowship
Department of Neurosurgery, Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, NY,NY
Under the tutelage of Dr Bernardo, the fellowship also included an exhaustive course to all approaches to the cranial base using independent cadaveric dissection for rehearsal of complex approaches to the skull base. It also included a teaching role in the ongoing series of skull base and vascular neurosurgery courses offered to a national and international audience.
Principal Investigator: Antonio Bernardo
Development of the Pediatric Cranial Venous System and Its Clinical Relevance: A Comprehensive Multicenter Study
Jan 2017- June 2018
A multicenter retrospective study of postnatal magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonography, and angiography data to develop a model of the gross structural development of the cranial venous system during specific developmental periods in order to identify the formation of common surgical targets including but not limited to the tentorium, cavernous sinus, ophthalmic vein, perivertebral and peribasilar plexuses, and jugular bulb.
Principal Investigator: Michael Levy
July 2016-June 2017
Application of augmented virtual reality in neurosurgical training: Impact on neuroanatomical understanding and surgical education
Objective is to develop a software application for use with an Ipad to allow for the visualization of the cavernous sinus in AR for use in training of neurosurgical residents.
01/2010- 06/2010 Neurological Research Journal
Selected twenty papers from one hundred papers submitted by research investigators from Mainland China. These twenty papers were selected to be presented at the 10th Tiantan International Stroke Conference (TISC) June 25-27, 2010, Beijing, China. The selected papers were edited and published in a Special Issue of Neurological Research May 2010. The objective of this special issue was to summarize contemporaneous stroke research in China in 2010.
07/09-05/11 Neurosurgery Research Assistant –Yuchuan Ding, MD, PhD
Stroke Research, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI
• Project investigated neuroprotection conferred by alcohol in stroke patients. The project’s goals were to investigate mechanism of alcohol neuroprotection as well as devise an intervention for acute stroke victims using alcohol and delineate the optimal therapeutic dose of alcohol to be used.
• Research aimed to elucidate the mechanisms that provide exercise-induced neuroprotection prior to ischemic event in brain tissue. Project focused particularly on the regulation of pro and anti apoptotic proteins by pre ischemic induction of TNF alpha, Heat shock protein and ERK. I also gained experience with the writing and preparing of manuscript drafts to be submitted for publication.
05/08-07/08 Pediatric Neurology Research Assistant – Elliot Sherr, MD, PhD
Brain Development Center, University of California, San Francisco, CA
• Developed project to characterize the native function of TMTC4 protein in order to elucidate its role in Agenesis of Corpus Callosum. Purified TMTC4 specific polyclonal antibody generated in lab in order to study the sub cellular localization of TMTC4 in the brain. Exposed to a broad range of molecular biology techniques (western blot, PCR) and to the basics of cerebral development.
08/03-01/04 Molecular Biology Research Assistant, Sheila McCormick, PhD
Plant Gene Expression Center, United States Department of Agriculture, Albany, California
• Research involved development of an ability to regulate pollen development and pollen pistil interactions in crop plants. Familiar with techniques used to study and analyze molecular interactions that occur during pollen development.
2006-2007 Autism Instructor/ Awareness Coordinator – SCERTS Autism Program, San Francisco, CA
• Developed and implemented comprehensive, practical and functional programs for five kindergartners on autism spectrum disorder using the SCERTS model. Created unique interventional strategies to meet specific & individualized challenges involved in children’s programs.
• Communicated with administrators, parents, regular and special education staff to create appropriate practice programs for a variety of educational settings.
• Conceptualized and directed workshops at elementary schools to educate typically developing children on Autism spectrum disorders.
2004-2005 Assistant Election Chair & Polls Coordinator–
Associated Students of University of California
• Conducted 2004 and 2005 ASUC Elections for 30,000 UC Berkeley undergraduates & graduates. Negotiated with several vendors and administrators to overhaul the whole elections process, which resulted in the most successful and efficient elections that the campus had witnessed in the last 4 years. Chief Administrator of the Campaign Finance. Primary liaison between 150 candidates and the Council during both years.
2008-2009 WSU SOM Fabric of Society Local Volunteering Program –volunteer activities include Sight Savers Vision Detroit, Sister, Gleaner’s Food Bank, Asian American Community Center Health Screenings, DMC Hospice Program.
- Compassionate Ally Program- Fosters relationships between medical students and hospice patients to provide support and friendship and gain deeper understanding of end of life issues. 2008-2009 Code Blue Medical Student –1st Grade Mentoring Program at Cortland Elementary.
2007-2009 Cass Student run clinic- Coalition of Wayne State students that perform histories and physicals and provide basic health care to the indigent population of Detroit.
2007- 2008 WSU SOM Humanistic Medicine Volunteering program- Involved in community outreach serving the underserved populations in the Detroit metropolitan area, including student run free clinics- Cass Clinic, Covenant House, Joy Clinic. Attend regular seminars on topics affecting present day medicine, including Art of medicine classes taught by various physicians. program helps medical students further their knowledge of different forms of Complementary Alternative Medicine such as yoga, tai-chi, healing touch and acupuncture. Shadowed Primary Care Providers who employ complementary and alternative medicine in their practice.
2004-2005 Autism Tutor- Children’s Hospital Autism Intervention Program (CHAI), Oakland, CA Provided early intervention for infants and children aged 0-3 yrs diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder under the supervision of interdisciplinary team. Engaged with children through structured teaching approaches (floor time), developmental play and interactions. Attended weekly seminars given by the CHAI team on different aspects of autism.
2002-2006 SAT tutor- involved in a coalition of UC Berkeley students to provide a free 8-week SAT test prep course SAT to underprivileged high school students in the bay area. Planned activities to motivate students towards a college education by sharing experiences and addressing concerns.
